The trend of celebrities wearing wigs isn’t unheard of. Many wear them as a fashion accessory or to change up their style, while others wear them to disguise their hair loss.
Here, we’ll take a look at some of the popular stars who have been rumoured to wear wigs or have openly admitted to wearing one at one point or another.
Which Celebs Wear Wigs?
Let’s take a closer look at the manes of some famous individuals.
Female Celebs Who Wear Wigs
Many female celebrities have been open about wearing wigs either due to hair loss or fashion choices.
Ariana Grande
Known for her signature ponytail, ‘Wicked’ star Ariana Grande has opened up about suffering hair loss in the past and wearing extensions. In 2014, the singer took to Facebook to talk about it.
Even for her recent film, Grande was reported to have worn wigs.

Zendaya
The much-adored Challengers actress Zendaya hasn’t ever shied away from talking about wigs. She has even revealed the type of wigs she prefers to wear.
In 2017, People reported Zendaya explaining clips, tracks and weaves in a video she’d uploaded to her website (which has since been removed). She also mentioned her fondness for lace-front wigs.
"Those (lace-front wigs) are the best when it comes to full-coverage and looking natural. They can be applied with tape and/or glue. I wear them when I want a completely different look."
Kylie Jenner
The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan famously claimed to have “started wigs” in a 2016 interview with Marie Claire.
"I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim [Kardashian] just used my wig guy last night...I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow."
Keke Palmer
The gorgeous Keke Palmer has tried all sorts of hairdos and her key to experimenting with her has been, as you might have guessed, wigs! In an interview with People, the singer said:
"Try a wig. It’s not your hair and it’s easy to fix!”
Katy Perry
Wigs and Katy Perry go way back. In 2018, the singer’s “wig” comment on American Idol took the internet by storm.
But while that might’ve had a slightly different meaning, Katy’s no stranger to literal wigs either.
Cardi B
Rapper Cardi B has debuted many iconic looks over the years thanks to wigs. Whether it’s waist-length rainbow-coloured waves or blue-coloured bow buns, needless to say, the singer knows what she’s doing.
Nicki Minaj
Taking the wig game a step further is none other than Super Freaky Girl singer Nicki Minaj. The rapper said the following in an interview with Allure in 2011 when asked how many wigs she had:
"A hundred? Right before I walk out the door, I grab one. Today, I wore a beige jacket and brown boots and I wanted to keep the whole earth-tone color scheme, so I did blonde. But it all depends on my mood. I just like to feel euphoric and free—so I'm going for more of the pink and the crazy, weird stuff now..."
Rihanna
The beauty icon Rihanna is also often seen donning a wig. Once, the singer also posted a story on her Instagram in which she pictured herself with a lace-front wig with the caption, “what frontal?”
Emily Ratajkowski
Supermodel Em Rata has also switched hairstyles now and then using wigs. Speaking to Marie Claire in 2019, Emily noted:
"...One of the hairstylists I work with, Jennifer Yepez, gave me the best advice: Take care of what you’ve got and use wigs when you need to experiment and get that urge to do something different. I wear them all the time and people don’t realize it..."
Keira Knightley
Atonement actress Keira Knightly talked about the damage dyeing caused to her hair, which led her to wear wigs. In an interview with InStyle, the star was reported to have said the following:
"I have dyed my hair virtually every colour imaginable for different films” and “it got so bad that my hair literally began to fall out of my head! So for the past five years I’ve used wigs, which is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to my hair."

Serena Williams
Tennis legend Serena Williams is also no stranger to the world of wigs. In 2023, Serena Ventures backed an AI-based wig company. And in 2024, she also posted a very candid video of ripping a wig off her head while holding her baby.
Halsey
Another singer who has been reported to have an “extensive wig collection” is the Without Me hitmaker Halsey.
Lisa Rinna
The star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Rinna, frequently changes up her hairstyle with her collection of wigs. To the actor, wigs help her step “into different characters” and find them to be “a great form of expression” for herself.
Doja Cat
Rapper Doja Cat once shaved her hair saying she “never liked having hair.” However, she has experimented with different wigs to change her style.

Male Celebs Who Wear Wigs
A few male celebrities have publicly admitted to wearing wigs. Others, however, have been rumoured to have one.
Brendan Fraser
The Oscar-winning actor Brendan Fraser is speculated to wear a wig. The Mummy star was photographed with a noticeable bald spot on the front of his scalp in 2007.
Since then, the actor’s hair has sometimes appeared thicker and then thin again, possibly suggesting a hairpiece.

Jude Law
Jude Law’s hairline has been receding for quite a few years now. However, in his on-screen performances, he’s often seen with a thicker thatch, which suggests the possibility of hairpieces.

Hugh Laurie
Hugh Laurie, who became the ultimate sex symbol in the late 2000s, has also struggled with hair loss.
While it’s possible his hair was “zhuzhed” up for his role in House, off-camera, the actor has never tried to disguise it with any hair fibres or hair systems.

Ted Danson
The star of Good Place, Ted Danson, is also among the bald celebs who wear wigs.
In an episode of Cheers, It’s Lonely on the Top, Danson improvised and actually removed his hairpiece in the scene, which clearly showed his balding crown.
Losing Your Hair?
While there are many celebs who wear wigs, there are also others who choose to undergo a hair transplant as a permanent solution.
