Has Olly Murs Had A Hair Transplant?

You don’t have to be a fan of the X Factor to know who Olly Murs is. It’s been more than a decade since the pop star finished as a runner-up on the show, yet he’s still very much a part of the British music scene. In the years he’s graced the TV screen, his fans have noticed many changes in him, including his hair.

For a while, it was widely rumoured that Olly Murs was wearing a hairpiece to hide his bald spots. But soon enough, Olly Murs’ hair transplant speculations replaced them, seeing how the singer’s hair had made a pretty strong comeback. But is there any truth to these rumours, or did Olly get something else done to his hair? Let’s find out!

Who Is Olly Murs?

Born on 14 May 1984 in Essex, England, Oliver Stanley Murs is a British singer, TV host, actor and ex-footballer. As reported in National World, once upon a time, Olly played for Coggeshall Town. He scored 12 goals for the team, but his career in the sport was cut short owing to an injury.

However, then came the 2009 X Factor, where he made it all the way through to a final with Robbie Williams. However, he was outdone by Joe McElderry, placing him second in the chase for the X Factor’s winning title. While it wasn’t the ideal outcome, Olly got things working for him after his X Factor stint with the release of his first album in 2010.

The following year, he released another album, which also got a positive reception. He’s made 5 other albums since and has also been a part of other projects, including a lot of TV presenting in TV shows, such as The X Factor, The Xtra Factor, Starstruck, etc. He’s currently expecting his first child with his wife, Amelia Tank.

Did Olly Murs Really Get A Hair Transplant?

While Olly Murs hasn’t said anything about getting a hair transplant, it’s possible that the singer might’ve had not one but two hair transplants. His hairline first started to look a bit different between 2012 and 2013 and afterwards; more noticeably, it looked lower and fuller.

Here’s how Olly’s hairline was in 2012 (he would quite often wear hats, which might’ve been a deliberate choice to hide hair thinning):

And here’s how it looked in 2013 – notice how the overall size of the forehead appears relatively smaller:

While Olly’s hairline still looked a bit up high at times, in 2021, it was again noticeably lowered, which might be because of another hair transplant, but, of course, this is just speculation as Olly hasn’t admitted to getting any surgery.

Why Was Olly Murs Experiencing Hair Loss?

Olly Murs may have been losing hair due to male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia. It’s a common cause of hair loss in both men and women and occurs due to a combination of genetics and hormones. Dihydrotestosterone – a byproduct of testosterone – permanently miniaturises the hair follicles, eventually leaving you bald.

Classic androgenetic alopecia

Since this type of hair loss usually progresses in a distinct “pattern,” it is so called. The hairline starts to recede, forming an M-shape, and you can also start experiencing hair loss in the crown area of the scalp.

Olly’s hairline did look a bit receded during his time with the X Factor. In 2010, in a somewhat bizarre manner, the Mirror also reported on Olly Murs’ male pattern baldness. So, it might possibly have been that.

What Type Of Hair Transplant Did Olly Murs Get?

Assuming Olly Murs had a hair transplant, it’s possible he might’ve chosen the FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction technique.

In this, individual follicular units are extracted from the back of the head – the donor area – and transplanted into the bald spots. This technique is usually preferred over the Follicular Unit Transplant or FUT method, in which a piece of skin is cut out from the scalp to obtain hair grafts for transplantation.

FUE VS FUT hair transplant

The downside of FUT is that its recovery can be relatively more difficult since it is more invasive and requires stitches. Additionally, it can leave a prominent linear scar on the back.

Conclusion

Has Olly Murs had a hair transplant? Analysing his pictures, it does seem like a possibility. In fact, there are two times in which his hairline has looked significantly different in the last decade or so.

At the end of the day, however, it’s the pop star’s personal choice to discuss something like this, and it’s totally up to him whether or not he wants to. There are other celebrity hair transplants as well, and some have been quite open about it, such as Wayne Rooney, Rob Holding, James Nesbitt, and Jimmy Carr.

If you’re also thinking of getting an affordable transplant surgery, you can consider a hair transplant in Turkey, where the surgery usually costs between £1,500 to £2,000 on average. But before anything, if you’re losing your hair, make sure you consult a medical professional for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
